The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with S Joshua Metellus.
In his fifth season in Minnesota in 2024, Metellus appeared in all 17 games with 10 starts at safety, posting 103 total tackles, five passes defensed, a career-high two interceptions and one forced fumble. He saw action on 1,192 snaps on defense and special teams, the highest mark on the team.
In 2023, Metellus started all 17 games and set single-season career highs in defensive tackles (112), tackles for loss (seven), forced fumbles (four) and sacks (2.5). He was just one of five NFL players to log at least four forced fumbles, 2.0 sacks and an interception. He also became just the third Viking in team history to achieve that stat line in a single season, joining Jared Allen (twice, 2009 and 2011) and Antoine Winfield Sr. (2008).
A three-time team captain, Metellus was drafted by the Vikings in the sixth round (No. 205 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played in 82 career games (30 starts) and notched 253 defensive tackles (166 solo), 16 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
