(Eagan, MN) — Wednesday morning the Minnesota Vikings announced that Kevin O’Connell is the 10th head coach in franchise history. Coming off a Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, O’Connell joins the Vikings after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams the past two seasons. The team will hold a news conference at 4 P-M Thursday afternoon at T-C-O Performance Center.
“We are ecstatic to add Kevin as our head coach,” said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf through a team issued statement. “He is a strong leader, an innovative coach and an excellent communicator.” O’Connell beat out Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh among others, but the Vikings were unable to officially hire him until after the Super Bowl. O’Connell is expected to bring Rams passing game coordinator Wes Phillips and running backs coach Thomas Brown with him to join the Vikings staff.
