Vikings sign RT O’Neill to extension

September 8, 2021 By Minnesota News Network

The Minnesota Vikings announce T Brian O’Neill has signed a contract extension with the team.

The 2018 second-round draft pick out of Pittsburgh has appeared in 46 career games and made 42 starts in this three-year career. Since starting 11 games during his rookie campaign, O’Neill has started 15 games in 2019 and 16 games in 2020, helping the offense to 4,416 rushing yards in that span, the third-most in the NFL.

O’Neill, who turns 26 on September 15, has paved the way for RB Dalvin Cook, who earned back-to-back Pro Bowl berths in 2019 and 2020 and helped Kirk Cousins set career highs in passer rating over the last two campaigns.

The 2017 First Team All-ACC member came into the league starting the final 37 games of his college career, seeing the majority of his starts at right tackle.
