The Minnesota Vikings will move their training camp to the new team headquarters in Eagan in 2018, the club announced on Tuesday.
The Vikings will open their 52nd — and last — at Minnesota State University next week before heading to the state-of-the-art practice facility in Eagan.
The latter venue features a 6,500-seat stadium that can be used for training camp practices. The new facility will include five practice fields — four outdoor and one indoor. By comparison, should inclement weather make an appearance at Minnesota State, the team either has to wait out the storm or move practice to the infield of an indoor track.
The Vikings have held training camp in Mankato since 1966, which ties the Pittsburgh Steelers’ stay at St. Vincent College for the second-longest by any team in the NFL.
The Vikings signed a three-year extension with Minnesota State in 2015, with the provision that allowed either the team or the university to re-evaluate its options in December 2017.
