One year after making unwanted history, Virginia captured the first national title in program history by outlasting Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime in the championship game of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Cavaliers got clutch performances from DeAndre Hunter and Kyle Guy to erase the memory of last year’s first-round loss to UMBC as a No. 1 seed, as Hunter scored a career-high 27 points and hit a crucial 3-pointer with 12.1 seconds left that forced the extra session. Guy finished with 24 en route to being named the Final Four’s most outstanding player.
