Governor Tim Walz in Henderson today signaled he’s willing to make a deal on his COVID emergency powers, to get the legislature to pass a bonding bill. House Republican leaders have said they won’t provide the necessary votes for a state public works package unless Walz gives up or scales back his COVID authority — and the governor said today, “I would be more than happy to let the legislature take on some of these responsibilities and to make these decisions — because the way it’s set up right now, every decision that’s made, if it works out well, then everybody’s happy about that. If it doesn’t, they’re gonna blame me.”
Walz says he’s “still hopeful” for an agreement on a bonding bill by Monday, when the legislature resumes its second special session.
