Governor Tim Walz is asking the legislature for 150 million dollars in state bonding to preserve existing affordable housing and build new affordable homes. Walz says it ties in with programs to assist veterans. “Our goal is to be the fourth state to eliminate veterans’ homelessness, but our next goal is to be the first state to eliminate homelessness in general,” he says.
Walz is also asking for 10 million dollars to renew existing state veterans homes in Fergus Falls, Luverne, Silver Bay, Hastings and Minneapolis. He says it will mean safer residential spaces for vets receiving skilled or assisted care, plus improved energy efficiency.
