Governor Tim Walz is asking the legislature to designate 250 thousand dollars for farm safety programs in Minnesota. Michele Gran, whose son died last summer when he was caught in a grain bin auger, says Landon’s death cannot be in vain, “if we can save lives through some of these safety measures. I’m a momma on a mission, and… I don’t want to stop here in Minnesota. I want Minnesota to be the leader.”
The governor wants the state to give farmers financial incentives to retrofit eligible tractors with rollover protection and invest in grain bin safety equipment. And Walz wants an outreach program that highlights tractor and grain bin safety, and also promotes those reimbursement or cost-share programs.
