Governor Tim Walz has authorized state aid for three Minnesota counties — Cass, Kittson and Marshall — after severe thunderstorms pounded that part of north-central and northwest Minnesota in mid-July. Officials say heavy rains and flooding caused extensive damage to public infrastructure. The state will cover 75 percent of eligible costs — estimated at over 114 thousand dollars — and the three counties are responsible for the rest.
The governor also authorized state aid for Wilkin County in west-central Minnesota which was hammered by heavy rains and high winds in early July. Among major damage was to power transmission lines in the southern half of the county.
