Walz highlighting mask mandate, Republicans object

July 29, 2020 By Bill Werner

Governor Tim Walz is highlighting his mask order that took effect last weekend, even as state health officials warn about a possible resurgence of COVID-19 in Minnesota. The governor joins business leaders at a packaging company in Brooklyn Park (130pm), spotlighting efforts to distribute four million disposal masks free to businesses around the state. Walz contends face coverings and social distancing are Minnesota’s best weapons in the battle against any further spike or spikes in COVID.

Meanwhile Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says form letters reportedly sent to businesses by a state agency, implying support for the mask mandate, skirted the edge of state law and were “absolutely inappropriate” — and Gazelka is calling on Walz to address that issue.
