Governor Tim Walz strongly hinted today that he could extend COVID closures of bars, restaurants and health clubs beyond December 18th. Walz points to the spike in the pandemic, even though a vaccine is on the horizon. “We’re coming to the end of this thing, and whether that’s in next few months or not, that will be seen — but this is the time now it seems to me that if we could get just a little bit of digging-in here,” the governor says.
House Republican Minority Leader Kurt Daudt responds, “Instead of saying, let’s close movie theaters, let’s ask the question, how do we keep movie theaters open, or how do we keep health clubs open, or how do we keep restaurants open.”
Daudt says he’d like looser restrictions on health clubs and movie theaters as part of a state aid package that lawmakers are working on for bars and restaurants.
