Governor Tim Walz says he supports changing state law so sex harassment would *not* have to be “severe or pervasive” to be in violation of Minnesota’s Human Rights Act. The governor said Friday doesn’t want to interject at this point in the debate, but “I certainly stand in the side of the House on this and I think that’s the way we should go.”
There’s disagreement even among female members of the legislature. Circle Pines Republican Linda Runbeck argued against the change before the House passed the bill last week, saying Minnesota needs a balanced law that would “make our workplaces not the powder-keg that it is, where every time you have a look that might be considered by somebody to be a leer or a gawk.”
“Me, too” advocates are pushing hard for the change.
