Governor Tim Walz in Mankato today said the state can declare veteran homelessness effectively ended in southeast Minnesota, as determined by key federal agencies. The governor says he’s very hopeful they’ll be able to say the same statewide before long. “I use that story my wife always says, that hope is the most powerful word in the universe but it is not a strategy or a plan. We have a strategy. We have a plan,” Walz says.
Officials say since 2014, over 18-hundred previously homeless veterans were matched up with housing. A state registry shows as of early July there were 216 homeless veterans in Minnesota.
