Feathers flew this afternoon as Governor Tim Walz welcomed a Minnesota-grown turkey to the State Capitol to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. “There have been senators in here less cooperative,” the governor quipped as the bird flapped her wings.
Minnesota Turkey Growers Association is donating 11 thousand dollars toward turkey products for foodshelves and food banks across Minnesota. Colleen Moriarty with Hunger Solutions Minnesota says turkey producers’ support “has never wavered…. It’s always gone up and up and up, even when they were feeling the crushing blow of dealing with the crisis at the farm community.”
Minnesota is the nation’s top turkey producer — an estimated 42 million birds each year. Governor Walz is encouraging all Minnesotans to serve Minnesota-grown turkey at Thanksgiving this year.
