Walz will announce significant dialback of COVID restrictions

March 12, 2021 By Bill Werner

Governor Tim Walz announces this morning (11am) what he bills as one of the most significant dial-backs so far of COVID-19 restrictions in Minnesota. It’s pretty clear that the governor will loosen restrictions on large events — likely allowing 10-thousand fans at Target Field, what the Twins have requested. It’s also a reasonable guess that whatever restrictions remain could be different for indoor events where people often don’t stay in their seats, such as concerts.

The governor has been getting much pressure, from Republicans in particular, to loosen restrictions on bars, restaurants, fitness centers and similar businesses. With COVID numbers trending the right direction and President Biden’s announcement on the vaccine, it’s a reasonable possibility Walz could ease those restrictions also. And then there’s the question, will he at some point lift the executive order requiring people to work from home if they can.
