Governor Tim Walz has put lawmakers on notice that when he rolls out his proposed state budget later this month, he’ll ask the legislature for money to beef up security at the State Capitol. “I’m not telling anyone… anything they don’t already know: There’s going to be some big events come up this year in Minnesota, and not least is the trial of George Floyd’s death,” the governor says.
Walz contends the state cannot err on the side of having too few security forces — that it’s better to have too many. He says he’ll ask the legislature to approve funding early-on and not wait until the end of the session.
