Governor Tim Walz said today he will extend the COVID state of emergency another 30 days, which will trigger the sixth special session of the year beginning Thursday. Walz points to what he calls a “dangerous phase of the pandemic” amid a surge in positive case rates and hospitalizations. The governor will announce more anti-COVID steps Tuesday, but this time is talking about targeted restrictions or shutdowns in places where young adults are spreading COVID. Republicans say the spike in COVID cases has come from social gatherings, not restaurants and bars being open.
