Waseca police officer six months into recovery

July 7, 2020 By Tasha Redel

Waseca Police Officer Arik Matson is now six months into his recovery from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators say Tyler Janovsky shot Matson January 6th during an exchange of gunfire with four officers. His CaringBridge site says Matson has undergone two surgeries since the shooting and may have another one later this year. He’s currently in rehabilitation at a hospital in Nebraska. The post says he struggled to regain his daily capabilities back that we all take for granted, and “Arik’s memory is all there. His appetite is back. He is able to write letters back and forth with his daughter weekly.”
