The Washington County Sheriff’s office is taking a unique approach to raising awareness of suicide prevention. Through September, an active squad car is featuring an advertisement with information on suicide prevention–including a web address and phone and text numbers. Sheriff Dan Starry says “we all know someone that has been touched either personally or through an acquaintance, someone that has either attempted or thought of or actually committed suicide and I think it’s one of those things that we need to talk about and make sure the stigma is dropped.” The car features the nationally recognized suicide awareness colors of teal and purple, including the suicide prevention ribbon. Since the beginning of 2018, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has responded to 163 suicide related calls. Here is more with Sheriff Dan Starry.
