Sen. Torrey Westrom (R-Elbow Lake)
Governor Mark Dayton has designated this “Water Action Week” in Minnesota, as the legislature works on adjustments to controversial “buffer strip” legislation passed last year to control runoff into streams and lakes. Elbow Lake Republican Torrey Westrom wants clarification whether farmers putting alfalfa on buffer strips can re-plant in hay, when the alfalfa gets weak in four or five years. Westrom says farmers asked him about it and he doesn’t want their question left unanswered.
The Minnesota Senate approved adjustments to the buffer law last week and now it’s in the House’s court.
