A Monticello man is in jail after a kidnapping and killing of a five-year-old girl. 26-year-old Zachary Anderson allegedly killed Alayna Ertl who was reported missing from her home in Watkins Saturday morning around eight a.m. Authorities soon after issued an Amber Alert. Several hours later, the young girl’s body was found on property owned by Anderson’s family near Motley, in Cass County. That’s where Anderson was arrested without incident. Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze says Anderson was a family friend and co-worker of Alayna’s father who had spent the night with the family in Watkins. A preliminary autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner said Ertl died of “homicidal violence.” Anderson is due in court today or tomorrow.
