“Welcome Week” begins tonight at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus with a kick-off event at TCF Bank Stadium, when new students will form a giant “M” on the field to represent pride and spirit. Orientation Director Beth Lingren Clark adds, “We’re having a few surprises at convocation this year. We’re also enhancing some of our off-campus student experiences, having some rally points, hoping that they can make some connections.” Convocation is Thursday morning at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers play Oregon State tomorrow night.
Also among the week’s activities is “Earth, U and Barbecue.” Lingren Clark says, “This is sort of taking our sustainability message that we’ve had in the past and turn it more into action for students.” She says students will receive “sustainable water bottles” that can be refilled at various places on campus, there’s a sustainability resource fair, and students will also be able to win prizes.
