Western Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy killed

Authorities say they have a suspect in custody in the fatal shooting of a western Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy. Rusk County Sheriff Jeff Wallace says 33-year-old Deputy Dan Glaze was found fatally shot Saturday night, shortly after stopping to investigate a suspicious vehicle in a field near Ladysmith. Dispatch lost contact with Glaze and, when backup arrived on the scene, he was found dead from a gunshot wound. The death sparked a manhunt for 43-year-old Doug Nitek, who authorities warned was armed and dangerous. On Sunday morning, a tactical robot was sent in to a home at the crime scene to search for Nitek. A single gunshot was fired at officers on the scene, after which Nitek turned himself in without further incident. He’s currently in jail awaiting formal charges. Glaze was a seven year veteran in law enforcement and had been with the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department for about a year and a half.
