Wife of man shot to death accused of stealing his funds

March 29, 2018 By Bill Werner

Authorities continue looking for the wife of a man found shot to death last week inside the couple’s home in rural Blooming Prairie, and the woman is now charged with theft of her husband’s funds.  A Dodge County bank told investigators that 56-year old Lois Ann Riess deposited close to $10,000 from her husband’s business funds into his personal account, and a short time later had checks made out to herself amounting to $11,000 drawn from the account. A criminal complaint stated that David Riess’s debit card had been used over the weekend of March 23rd. Investigators, who believe Riess died on March 21st determined that he had not used the card.

Lois Riess has yet to be located. She is charged via a warrant with a felony for theft of another’s property without consent, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or $20,000 in fines. Investigators have said they believe she may be armed and should not be approached.
