Wild Double Up Red Wings

January 23, 2020 By Minnesota News Network

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The Wild scored three times in the second period to surge past the Red Wings 4-2.  Mats Zuccarello and Jason Zucker scored 1:07 apart in the second period to give the Wild their first lead of the hockey game and then Eric Staal made it 4-2 at 11:39 of the middle frame.  Jordan Greenway scored the other Wild goal in the first period while Devan Dubnyk made 25 saves for his first win since January 4th.

Center Eric Staal scored his 17th goal of the season in Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Detroit.

The N-H-L is now off for the All Star Break.  Staal will represent the Wild for the second time in three years in the league festivities in St. Louis.  It will be the sixth All Star appearance for Staal who is second on the team in goals with 17.  The Wild will follow up the All Star break with their bye week meaning they will be away from game action for nine days.  Their next game is on February 1st when they host the Boston Bruins for the first of three straight home games.  Minnesota enters the break five points back of a playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 23-21-6 record.
