The Minnesota Wild’s victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday sure was a costly one.
Forward Charlie Coyle is expected to miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a right fibula fracture, the team announced Friday. Fellow forwards Marcus Foligno and Nino Niederreiter will also miss time due to injuries sustained in Thursday’s 5-2 win for the Wild (1-1-1).
The 25-year-old Coyle, who was placed on long-term injured reserve, has two assists in three games this season.
Niederreiter was also placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss at least three weeks with a high left ankle sprain. The 25-year-old has yet to record a point this season.
Foligno, 26, will be sidelined at least one week after sustaining a left facial fracture that will require a procedure Sunday.
Also on on Friday, the Wild recalled center Luke Kunin from the Iowa Wild and assigned defenseman Mike Reilly to the American Hockey League affiliate.
Kunin, 19, tallied a goal, an assist and four penalty minutes in two games with Iowa this season.
Kunin was selected by Minnesota in the first round (15th overall) of the 2016 NHL draft. The 6-foot, 193-pound native of Chesterfield, Mo., totaled 38 points (22 goals, 16 assists) and 30 penalty minutes in 35 contests during his sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin in 2016-17.
Kunin served as the captain of Team USA at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, helping the U.S. capture a gold medal with four points (two goals, two assists) in seven games.
Reilly, 24, recorded two assists in three games with Minnesota this season and averaged 11:19 in time on ice. The 6-2, 195-pounder native of Chicago had one goal and two penalty minutes in 17 games with Minnesota last season and added 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) and 48 penalty minutes in 57 games with Iowa.
Reilly owns 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 49 career NHL games with the Wild. He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round in 2011.
