January 13, 2021 By Minnesota News Network

Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed forward Marcus Foligno to a three-year, $9.3 million contract extension ($3.1 million AAV) through the 2023-24 season.

Foligno 29, (8/10/91), tallied 25 points (11-14=25), a plus-8 rating, 30 penalty minutes (PIM) and 184 hits in 59 games with Minnesota in 2019-20, setting career highs in points and plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-3, 224-pound native of Buffalo, N.Y., led the team in hits (T-18th in the NHL) and ranked third in plus/minus rating. He also ranked second amongst team forwards in shorthanded time on ice (SHTOI). Foligno notched consecutive multi-point games for the first time in his career, Jan. 4-5 (3-1=4) and recorded a season-high seven hits five times. He notched season-highs with three points (1-2=3) and five shots, and tied his season-best with seven hits at Arizona (Dec. 19) and tallied his 100th career NHL assist vs. Anaheim (Dec. 10).

Foligno has collected 183 points (75-108=183), 491 PIM and 1,598 hits in 565 career NHL games during nine seasons with Buffalo (2011-17) and Minnesota (2017-20). He ranks ninth in the NHL with 1,446 hits since the start of the 2013-14 season. Foligno owns two points (1-1=2) in nine career Stanley Cup Playoff contests with the Wild.

He was acquired by Minnesota with Tyler Ennis and a third-round selection (Jack McBain) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jason Pominville, Marco Scandella and a fourth-round selection (Linus Cronholm) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft on June 30, 2017. Foligno was selected by Buffalo in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
