Wildlife experts want gray wolf off Endangered Species List

Two-dozen American and Canadian wildlife experts — including U-of-M Professor David Mech — are urging the federal government to take the gray wolf off the endangered species list. Doctor Mech says wolves have been de-listed three times since 1999 — and each time put back on by court cases that were decided on legal technicalities, not science.   But Doctor Maureen Hackett with the group Howling for Wolves  says  “if people knew the amount of wolf killing that could happen even outside of the hunt when wolves are no longer protected, they would understand why protection is still needed.”
