Candidates for governor have been campaigning at the State Fair, and the half-dozen Democrats already in the race are likely wondering whether Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson will jump in. Swanson says no decision is imminent, despite a number of people encouraging her to run for governor. Swanson says, “I’m flattered by that, but I personally think these campaigns are way too long and we’re still more than a year to go, and at this point I’m just focused on doing my job as attorney general and doing it as best as I can for the people in Minnesota.”
Swanson says, “I don’t have a timetable in mind or a sorta deadline in mind, but there will be a point in time when I deliberate on it and then… will make a decision and announce a decision.”
Six Republicans have already announced they’re running for governor. The big question on the GOP side is whether House Speaker Kurt Daudt will throw his hat in the ring.
