Will Minnesota churches, synagogues and mosques be able to reopen for public services this Memorial Day weekend — the question after President Trump demanded local officials allow it, and Governor Tim Walz continues talking with Minnesota’s faith leaders. Commissioner Jan Malcolm said late Friday the state Health Department will continue recommending “very good social distancing, limitations on numbers of people, limitations on activities — such as no direct person-to-person contact.”
A spokesman says the top priority of Governor Walz continues to be the health and safety of Minnesotans, and he looks forward to reviewing new CDC guidelines.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis announced Thursday that public Masses will resume next Tuesday despite the governor’s order — and some Lutheran churches announced similar plans.
