A federal jury has convicted the founder of a wind energy company in a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme directed at farmers in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Prosecutors say 52-year-old Shawn Dooling from Excelsior told customers his company — Renewable Energy SD — would build and maintain wind turbines on their property, but instead spent customers’ money on personal expenses and diverted their money to other customers’ projects. Investigators say Dooling lied about status of orders and falsely claimed manufacturer delays, defrauding over 70 customers out of more than 13 million dollars total.
