A worker at a downtown Minneapolis construction site is recovering after being trapped for about three hours this morning (Mon) when a trench wall collapsed (at the corner of Washington and Park avenues). Rescuers say the man was in sand up to his knees and one leg was caught in shoring that also gave way. Crews had to dig him out with shovels to avoid another possible collapse. A fire department official says initially there was concern the man might lose his leg but when he was rescued it appeared amputation might not be necessary. He was talking and alert when lifted out in a stretcher basket.
