Starting this week, Xcel Energy is putting in high-efficiency LED streetlights in about 350 Minnesota communities.
The conversion to the new lights will take around two-and-a-half years and will cover about 90,000 Xcel-owned streetlights.
Xcel’s Bob Schommer says the new fixtures will use up to 60-percent less electricity and have longer life–which could result in a four- to seven-percent annual savings on community street lighting bills.
The conversion is beginning in the Osakis area.
