Xcel Energy reports 66 thousand customers in the metro area and about 11 thousand in Greater Minnesota remain without power after last night’s severe storms. Roughly five thousand don’t have electricity in the Mankato, Red Wing and Faribault areas and about four thousand around Monticello and St. Michael. Xcel Energy’s Randy Fordice asks people to give repair crews a wide berth. Fordice says Xcel trucks are considered emergency vehicles and people should treat them just as they would any police car or ambulance on the side of the road. Xcel says crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.
