>>Authorities ID Victim of Fatal Shooting in Rochester

(Rochester, MN) — The Rochester Police Department is identifying the man fatally shot in a shopping center parking lot.  Officers say 24-year-old Osbel Ornelas of Rochester was shot Saturday afternoon and died in the hospital that evening.  Two brothers were arrested following the shooting.  Investigators say the suspects and Ornelas were involved in a road rage incident that led to a fight and one of the brothers shot him in the back of the head.  Authorities say they recovered a gun at the scene.

>>Man Rescued from Red River

(Moorhead, MN) — A man was rescued from the Red River this morning. Around 5 a.m., Red River Regional Dispatch responded to a report of a man in the river, yelling for help. Firefighters in water rescue suits pulled the man from the river and brought him to Fargo Hospital in an ambulance, suffering from hypothermia.

(St. Cloud, MN) –A Waite Park man wanted in connection to a 2022 fatal drug overdose is in custody. 30-year-old Jibril Ibrahim is charged with one count of third-degree murder, accused of supplying a St. Joseph woman with a fentanyl-laced blue pill. Officials found the woman unresponsive on October 24th, 2022. Life-saving measures and Narcan were unsuccessful. Authorities found a piece of tin foil containing a charred blue pill near the victim. Through searching the woman’s phone, investigators found the woman communicated with and bought the pill from Ibrahim. Ibrahim avoided arrest until he was caught Friday.

>>SEIU Local 26 Authorizes ULP Strike

(Minneapolis, MN) — SEIU Local 26 has authorized an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike for nearly 8,000 essential workers in Minneapolis. This comes after Attorney General Keith Ellison joined the group to debate Saturday, showing his support for the unanimous vote. The group demands higher wages, retirement security, and increased respect for essential workers who served throughout the COVID-19 pandemic such as commercial and retail janitors, subcontractors, and security officers. No strike dates have yet been set, but the union says they’re looking to the first week of March “if ULPS remain unresolved and fair contracts have not yet been reached.”

(Waseca, MN) — The FBI is investigating after a Waseca Federal Prison inmate was found dead Sunday. The Federal Bureau of Prison says 29-year-old Jessica Wallowingbull was found unresponsive. She was given life-saving measures but pronounced dead by EMS personnel. No employees or other prisoners were injured.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minneapolis Health Department is offering 1,000 trees to city property owners through a lottery, to help build the city’s greenery. In partnership with Tree Trust, any Minneapolis property owner can enter the lottery and if selected, purchase up to two $30 shade or evergreen trees, ranging anywhere from three to eight feet tall, weighing 20 to 40 pounds. Officials encourage anyone living in the city’s “Green Zones,” areas that have high levels of environmental pollution, to enter.
