(St. Paul, MN) — Senate Democrats have scheduled a hearing May 7th (1pm) on the ethics complaint Republicans filed against Woodbury Senator Nicole Mitchell, who’s facing felony burglary charges for allegedly breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes. Meanwhile, conservative media outlet Alpha News is asking a Becker County judge to make public the officer bodycam and dashcam video from the incident. Their attorney, James Dickey with the Upper Midwest Law Center says, “There have been subsequent statements made by Senator Mitchell and her attorney that appear to contradict the information in that complaint, and so the public has a strong interest in, really, just knowing what exactly went on here.” Dickey says they’re asking for expedited review of the request because it’s urgent the public have that information.

(St. Paul, MN) — A St. Paul man has been arrested and charged in connection with last Friday’s burglary and sexual assault at a St. Paul home. 34-year-old Deonte Thomas is charged with a count each of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree burglary, and felony possession of a firearm by an ineligible person. Court documents say Thomas broke into the victim’s home around 4:20 a.m. April 15th, choked her until she passed out, then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint when she regained consciousness. Thomas was arrested Thursday after multiple search warrants were executed. His first court appearance is Monday.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man has been arrested at a halfway house for allegedly beating a victim with a metal tire pump Thursday. 44-year-old Malik Johnson faces charges of second-degree and fifth-degree assault. A witness told police the victim was sitting on the couch when Johnson came out of his room and struck him with a metal tire pump. Court documents say when officers arrived, they found the victim being actively treated for a bleeding head wound, moaning and, trying to form words. The victim’s condition is currently unknown.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A 14-year-old has died at a hospital after being shot at a gas station in northeast Minneapolis early this morning (Fri) Preliminary information suggests the teen was in an SUV with other people when shots were fired from a second vehicle in the lot. No other injuries were reported, and the SUV was not reported stolen. A woman in her 30s was arrested and booked for an unrelated warrant, and officers are investigating how she is connected to the case. Officials say anyone who sees suspicious activity around Kia or Hyundai vehicles involving multiple teenagers should call 911 immediately.

(Cloquet, MN) — Police are asking the public’s help in identifying a man allegedly involved in mail theft in Cloquet in northeast Minnesota, and who officials believe could have attempted financial crimes in other areas of the state. Officials say officers went to the Cloquet Post Office April 8th on a report that their outside drop box was broken into and the contents stolen.
