Six members of the Minnesota football team have been named Academic All-District, as announced by College Sports Communicators Tuesday. The 2023 Academic All‐District Team recognizes the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Leading the way were fifth year defensive lineman Kyler Baugh and senior punter Mark Crawford, both of whom were selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
In addition to Baugh and Crawford, four redshirt freshmen also earned All-District recognition from CSC: offensive lineman Ashton Beers, defensive backs Coleman Bryson and Evan Redding, and linebacker Joey Gerlach.
To be considered for a CSC Academic All-District Team, nominees must meet the following criteria:
• A student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.
• A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don’t have an established graduate GPA.
• Nominated athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games/contests played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the games/contests.
• Student-athletes must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students. Only the school at which an athlete competed in the current academic year can nominate that player.
• The 12-month residency requirement for undergraduate transfers is no longer required. If transfer student-athletes are in their first semester at an institution, their cumulative undergraduate GPA and cumulative graduate GPA (if grad GPA is applicable) from their former institution – which meets the 3.50 cumulative GPA – is to be considered for Academic All-District/Academic All-America status. If a transfer student-athlete has a GPA at their current institution, then the COMBINED cumulative GPA (from all institutions) will be used in the nomination process.)
First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024.
