(Undated) — Next Saturday’s endorsing convention will determine whether Republicans in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District are united in their challenge to Congresswoman Angie Craig, or if there’s a primary election battle in that high-profile contest. The Star Tribune reports former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab (TEER-abb) told activists he’ll continue his campaign to the August primary with or without his party’s endorsement. His G-O-P rival, attorney Tayler Rahm, is criticizing Teirab for breaking an earlier pledge to abide by the party’s choice. Second District Republican Party Chairman Joseph Ditto says he hopes both candidates will observe their pledges and “a primary challenge, regardless of outcome, will weaken our chances to beat Craig.”

(Washington, DC) — The remains of a 19-year-old Minnesota sailor killed in the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor are coming home after more than 80 years. The Defense P-O-W/M-I-A Accounting Agency announced Monday that Navy Fire Controlman 3rd Class William Gusie of Stillwater was accounted for on September 23rd, 2021. Gusie was among the 429 killed when Japanese torpedoes hit the U-S-S Oklahoma on December 7th, 1941. He was identified using dental and D-N-A analysis and will be buried on June 12th in Minneapolis.

(Mahnomen, MN) — The future of the Mahnomen (muh-NOH’-men) Health Center in northwest Minnesota is the focus of a public hearing one week from today (4/30). C-E-O Dale Kruger says the facility is transitioning from a “critical access” to a “rural emergency” hospital. He says, “the only difference between our current and designation and the new designation is that we are not able to accept in-patients, but we can accept patients as observation bed patients.” Kruger says Mahnomen Health will still have an E-R, radiology, X-ray, M-R-I, lab, therapy, and all other out-patient services. Area residents will have to travel to Fargo or Bemidji for procedures that require multiple days of recovery.

(Woodbury, MN) — No word yet on the current medical condition of a man shot during an exchange of gunfire with police officers outside a Target store Monday in Woodbury. Authorities say they were alerted to a vehicle with stolen license plates and the suspect fought with police as they attempted to arrest him. The man displayed a gun and then barricaded himself in a vehicle. Less-than-less weapons were fired, and investigators say the suspect got of the vehicle, pointed a gun in the direction of officers and they fired on him. He was taken to Regions Hospital with unknown injuries. The Minnesota B-C-A is still investigating the incident.
>>Ex-Olmsted County Deputy Indicted on Federal Child Pornography Charges
(Rochester, MN) — A former Olmsted County sheriff’s deputy is pleading not guilty following a federal indictment of child pornography charges. The U-S Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Mathew Adamson of Rochester entered his pleas during an arraignment hearing Monday in St. Paul. Prosecutors accuse him of using minors in the production of pornography between 2015 and 2023. He’s also facing charges in Olmsted County for allegedly trying to solicit sex from an undercover officer posing as a child. His trial will begin in July.

(Mountain Iron, MN) — A St. Louis County sheriff’s deputy is okay after their vehicle was rear-ended Monday on Highway 169 near Mountain Iron. Sheriff Gordon Ramsay posted a picture of the damaged patrol S-U-V and said the deputy was hit from hit behind at “highway” speeds while parked at a crash scene. The deputy was not seriously hurt and able to walk away. Sheriff Ramsay says this is another reminder to move over for public safety vehicles and road maintenance workers.

(Blaine, MN) — The search for Minnesota woman who went missing nearly 30 years ago has been renewed following a tip about where her remains may be buried. Investigators launched the search Monday at a park in Blaine hoping to find out what happened to 30-year-old Tamara Bradley. She was last seen leaving work on September 30th, 1994 and was supposed to pick up her son from her ex-husband’s parents but never showed, something her family said was extremely unlike Tamara. Her vehicle was found several days later at the Greyhound Bus Station in Minneapolis with her keys and several uncashed paychecks inside. Police say no trace of Bradley had been found but the search continues.

(Austin, MN) — After serving the community for more than 75 years, the Salvation Army plans to close its thrift store in Austin. The store will stop accepting donations on Saturday and will close on May 31st. The organization says the store has had problems with profitability and is draining resources that could be used in other parts of Mower County.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns play Game 2 of the N-B-A playoffs tonight (Tues 6:30pm) at Target Center. The Wolves routed the Suns 120-95 in the series opener Saturday afternoon in downtown Minneapolis. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 33 points while Kevin Durant scored a team-high 31 for Phoenix. Wolves forward Kyle Anderson is questionable for tonight’s game with a hip injury.
