The Minnesota Twins announced that they have returned outfielder Max Kepler from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 10-day Injured List. Additionally, the Twins have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Ronny Henriquez, and optioned catcher Jair Camargo and Louie Varland to Triple-A St. Paul.
Kepler, who missed the Twins last 13 games with a right knee contusion, played in three games on rehab assignment for Triple-A St. Paul, going 4-for-10 (.400) with three walks and three runs scored. Prior to landing on the 10-day IL, Kepler played in five games for Minnesota, going 1-for-20 (.050) with one walk and six strikeouts.
Henriquez, 23, has appeared in seven games for the Saints this season, posting a 4.05 ERA (13.1 IP, 6 ER) with one save, two walks, 14 strikeouts, a .235 (12-for-51) opponent batting average and a .637 opponent OPS. The Bonao, Dominican Republic native made his debut for the Twins in 2022 and appeared in three games that season, going 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA (11.2 IP, 3 ER) with three walks and nine strikeouts.
To make room for Kepler and Henriquez on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned catcher Jair Camargo and right-handed pitcher Louie Varland to Triple-A St. Paul. Camargo, 24, appeared in two games for the Twins, going 0-for-4 with one walk and one run scored, including making his major league debut on April 16 at Baltimore. Varland, 26, made four starts for the Twins, going 0-4 with a 9.18 ERA (16.2 IP, 17 ER), nine walks and 18 strikeouts.
To make room for Henriquez on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Daniel Duarte to the 60-day Injured List. Duarte is scheduled to have surgery on his right elbow on May 8 and will not pitch again in 2024.
