(Dassel, MN) — A 52-year-old Watertown man fled from Meeker County deputies twice Sunday afternoon before disappearing into a cornfield in Dassel. A deputy stopped Steven Oachs, who allegedly gave a false name before fleeing on foot into a cornfield. Oachs later emerged and was picked up by a friend. Deputies stopped the vehicle, but Oachs again fled into the cornfield. Deputies established a perimeter and used drones, while a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter assisted with the search. Oachs was not located. Authorities say Oachs has multiple drug-related warrants for his arrest.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The state murder trial for Vance Boelter has been delayed until May 10th, 2027. Boelter’s defense attorneys say they need more time to review a large amount of investigative evidence. Prosecutors did not oppose the delay but raised concerns about writings allegedly connected to Boelter and efforts to generate publicity around the case. Boelter pleaded guilty in federal court to killing former Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and shooting State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. He is serving two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years. The state case includes additional charges.

(Minneapolis, MN) – A Minneapolis man will spend decades in prison for the 2025 murder of a 19-year-old man. Twenty-eight-year-old Seneca Lee Jones was sentenced Monday to 480 months, or 40 years, in prison for the shooting death of Darnell Mapp the Third in Hennepin County. A jury found Jones guilty in August of second-degree intentional murder and illegally possessing a firearm following a two-week trial. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty says the sentence protects the community, but does not undo the harm caused by the killing. Jones received credit for 320 days already served.

(Undated) – The licenses cover fishing areas in parts of western and northern Minnesota, including counties along the Minnesota River and portions of Clearwater, Beltrami and Hubbard counties. The D-N-R says applicants should have experience using commercial fishing equipment such as seines and hoop nets and be able to transport large quantities of fish. Applications must be received by November 6th. Licensed operators are responsible for marketing or legally disposing of fish harvested through their operations.

(Golden Valley, MN) – The two candidates for Minnesota governor took part in a forum this morning in front of business leaders and students in Golden Valley. DFL Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth were asked several questions about the business climate in Minnesota, making life more affordable and fraud. Klobuchar said the first thing she’ll do as governor is a top to bottom audit of state government to root out the fraud. Demuth pointed out that no one in Minnesota has lost their job because of fraud and has promised that would happen under her leadership. The forum was hosted by the Economic Club of Minnesota. Election Day is four weeks from tomorrow.
