>>Young Child Killed by Pony Identified

(Harmony, MN) – The southeast Minnesota infant girl who died after she was kicked in the head by a pony earlier this week has been identified. The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner has identified the girl as Ruth Stutzman. She was born on March 1. The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened on Tuesday at a home north of Harmony. The report says the young girl was kicked by a pony during a wagon ride. The 7-month-old was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester where she later died.

 

 

>>Detainee Dies in Olmsted County Jail

(Rochester, MN) – Authorities are investigating the death of a detainee at the Olmsted County Jail. Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tim Parkin said the 34-year-old detainee died after experiencing a medical event. Parkin said deputies and members of the Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the medical emergency around 4 p.m. on Friday, October 2. The detainee was pronounced dead at a Mayo Clinic hospital.

 

 

>>Willmar Motorcycle Crash Victim Dies

(Willmar, MN) — The driver of a motorcycle involved in a crash in Willmar Tuesday afternoon has died. The Willmar Police Department says 74-year-old Ronald Darger of Willmar was riding a motorcycle that collided with a pickup truck. Police say the pickup, driven by 55-year-old Candido Zelaya-Benitez of Willmar, was making a left turn when the collision occurred. Darger was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he died Wednesday. Zelaya-Benitez was not injured.

 

 

 

>>Hospice Nurses Reach Tentative Agreement with Allina

(Undated) – Hospice nurses have reached a tentative agreement on their first union contract with Allina Health. The deal came just as nurses were about to vote on whether to authorize an open-ended Unfair Labor Practice strike. The union says the new deal includes immediate wage increases for all hospice nurses, extra pay for extra work when needed, and a new mileage reimbursement system for travel. The nurses will vote to ratify the agreement on Monday.

 

 

 

>>Minneapolis Closing Current Safety Center

(Minneapolis) – The Lake Street Safety Center in Minneapolis will close on October 21. The lease at the pilot project site will expire, eventually making way for a new location of community-based safety services in the same neighborhood. The South Minneapolis Community Safety Center, which will also house the new Third Precinct for Minneapolis Police, will open in 2027. City services will still be available during the interim period.
