(Moorhead, MN) — A Fargo man has been indicted for killing 14-year-old Jaelyn Walker in Moorhead. 18-year-old Isaac Arndt faces first-degree murder and second-degree murder with intent charges, with the possibility of a premeditation charge. Walker’s body was found with multiple stab wounds on the Red River bank on August 20th, just hours after her mother reported her missing. Walker and Ardnt had argued previously over their romantic relationship. Arndt faces a life prison sentence if convicted of first-degree murder.

(Pelican, MN) — A man and woman both from Minneapolis were found dead at a Crow Wing County home Sunday during a welfare check. Breezy Point Police responded to the Pelican Township home around 2:41 p.m., finding 59-year-old Josie Lysne dead inside. 53-year-old Brett Shelstad was found inside the residence and brought outside. He died shortly after due to a medical emergency. Autopsy results are pending toxicology. The investigation is active and ongoing.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The then-17-year-old boy charged with second-degree murder and assault for the mass shooting at a Minneapolis music venue will be prosecuted as an adult. 18-year-old Dominic Burris of Hinckley is in custody, accused of killing a man, 35-year-old Nicholas “August” Golden, and injuring six people. The August 11th, 2023 shooting at Nudieland was an LGBTQ+ friendly gathering of 30-50 people. Witnesses noticed a pair of people making derogatory remarks to a lesbian couple before the two started shooting.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for his role in the gunfight that killed a Twin Cities firefighter in Minneapolis. Marquise Hammonds-Ford pleaded guilty to one count of prohibited possession of a firearm on October 1st. In May, off-duty Eden Prairie and Eagan firefighter Joseph Johns was killed during a shootout in a parking lot in the Seward neighborhood. Hammonds-Ford was found to have fired his weapon multiple times, instigating the shootout, but did not shoot Johns.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Richfield man has been sentenced to 21 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. 58-year-old Andrew Bigbee was convicted of conspiracy to distribute meth and possession to distribute on September 19th, 2023. Court documents say Bigbee operated between September 2019 and May 2021. Authorities executed a search warrant on Bigbee’s house in Richfield on September 4th, 2019, seizing over 250 grams of meth, a digital scale, more than $8,000 in cash, a money counting machine, drug packaging materials, and two firearms. An October 16th, 2020 search of Bigbee’s RV in Bloomington seized over 5,000 grams of meth, more than $300,000 in cash, and more drug-distributing paraphernalia. A third search on May 6th, 2021, of Bigbee’s home in Elko turned up 12,000 grams of meth, more drug trafficking evidence, $18,000 in cash, and a firearm. In total, officials found Bigbee in possession of over 17,250 grams of meth, more than $326,000 in cash, and three firearms.

(Remer, MN) – Crews are still working to remove a plane that crashed into a lake Tuesday afternoon near Remer in northern Minnesota. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses rescued the 56-year-old pilot from Texas from Lake Inguadona. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The water scooper plane was contracted by the DNR for fire suppression efforts, and the pilot was completing flight hours when it crashed. Some parts of the plane have been recovered from about 24 feet of water. DNR officials say the same vendor is bringing another plane to Minnesota to fight fires.

(St. Paul, MN) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District awarded a $10 million contract to build an island on the Mississippi River upstream of Lock and Dam 2 near Hastings. While many barges go through Lock and Dam 2, project manager Nick Castellane says the work will be done to the left of the upstream, meaning it won’t affect shipping. The work is scheduled to begin Spring of 2025 and is anticipated to be done in the fall of 2027.
