(Cass Lake, MN) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man found outside a residence near Cass Lake. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says Leech Lake Tribal Police requested an ambulance Sunday in Pike Bay Township. Officers and medical personnel found the man dead in the yard of a residence. The Minnesota BCA, State Patrol and Leech Lake Tribal Police are assisting with the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities have not identified the man or said how he died.

(Duluth, MN) — A 25-year-old man is in custody following a weekend stabbing in downtown Duluth. Police responded just after midnight Sunday and found a 37-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. Investigators say the victim and suspect got into a fight in a bathroom before the stabbing. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police located Kyle Heisler Junior nearby and arrested him on pending charges including first-degree assault and threats of violence.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Minnesota gun violence prevention group is releasing its 2026 candidate rankings ahead of the November election. Protect Minnesota surveyed candidates for federal, statewide and legislative offices on issues including safe firearm storage, red flag laws and gun regulations. Candidates who responded were assigned letter grades based on their answers. The group says the rankings are intended to give voters a clearer picture of where candidates stand on gun violence prevention issues. The rankings can be found at ProtectMN.org.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is urging farmers to use caution during fall anhydrous ammonia applications. The fertilizer can cause serious injuries or death if mishandled. Applicators should wear protective goggles and gloves and keep at least five gallons of clean emergency water nearby. The MDA also recommends waiting until soil temperatures average 50 degrees or colder before applying anhydrous ammonia to reduce nitrogen loss.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota regulators are rejecting Minnesota Power’s proposal for a large new natural gas plant. The Public Utilities Commission says the utility failed to demonstrate a clear need for the project and that approving it now could expose customers to unnecessary costs. Instead, regulators approved a modified long-term energy plan that includes converting Boswell Unit Three to natural gas by 2030 and adding new wind, battery storage, and other resources. Minnesota Power must submit an updated long-term plan by the end of 2027.

Ellison and attorneys general from 22 other states and Washington, D.C., argue the rule exceeds federal authority and could discourage immigrant families from using benefits for which they qualify. The coalition is asking a federal judge to block the rule.

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Labor (DLI) and Industry announced this week is the third annual Workplace Rights Week. Governor Tim Walz officially proclaimed the week to recognize the importance of protecting workers’ rights and supporting employer compliance with Minnesota labor laws. Throughout the week, DLI will partner with community organizations, employers and other state agencies to host educational events focused on key workplace protections. State agency staff members, including Minnesota Paid Leave, and community partners will visit businesses in communities across the state.

(Minneapolis) – Minnesota Twins pitcher Pablo Lopez has been named the team’s 2026 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award by Major League Baseball. The award is baseball’s most prestigious individual honor for major leaguers. The award is recognition for the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement and positive contributions on and off the field. This is the fourth time Lopez has been nominated. Past winners of the award for the Twins have been Rod Carew, Dave Winfield, Kirby Puckett, and Nelson Cruz.
