The Golden Gophers women’s golf team finished the third and final day of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M in 12th place Wednesday. The University of Minnesota squad carded a team score of 311 (+23) in the third round at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
Sophomore Lauryn Finley led Minnesota after carding a 1-over-par 73 in the final round of the tournament. She tallied two birdies on the back nine to climb eight spots, finishing in a four-way tie for 36th place. Finley penciled in an event total of 224 (+8) after the three-day competition.
Wake Forest held on to pick up the team victory behind a final score of 840 (-24), a ten shot margin over second-place USC. Michelle Xing of UCLA was the individual medalist with a 7-under-par 65 in the third round to secure a final score of 207 (-9).
Notable:
Senior Luisamariana Mesones carded a 4-over-par 76 during the third and final round. The Trujillo, Peru, native secured two birdies in the last round to end the event tied for 42nd place (226).
Rose Solberg shot an 80 (+8) in the third round with a birdie on the ninth hole. The freshman placed 48th on the leaderboard during her inaugural collegiate tournament with a total score of 229 (+13).
Sophomore transfer Emree Cameron penciled in a 59th-place finish after shooting a 13-over-par 85 during the third round. She totalled an event score of 242 (+26) in her first event as a Gopher.
Junior Reese McCauley placed 60th overall (247) as she met par six times accompanied by two birdies on the back nine.
Looking Ahead:
Minnesota will be back on the course Sept. 18-20 at Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C., as it takes part in the Lady Paladin Invitational.
