The University of Minnesota women’s golf team finished the third and final round of the Lady Paladin Invitational in ninth place Sunday. The Maroon and Gold carded a total team score of 294-289-299–882 (+17) at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

“Another great journey for Mar,” said Head Coach Matt Higgins. “We had a young lineup this week, and I know they’ll learn from the good things that went well and work on the things we can do better for our next tournament. Really proud of their work ethic and determination to improve.”

Luisamariana Mesones led the Golden Gophers after penciling an even round of 72 to close the tournament. The senior carded four birdies, finishing in a four-way tie for 11th place to earn the 21st top-20 finish of her collegiate career. Mesones carded a 3-under-par event total of 213 after the three-day competition.

Alabama pulled ahead to pick up the team victory behind a final score of 842 (-22), a 10-shot margin over second-place High Point. Makayla Grubb of High Point was the individual medalist with a 5-under-par 67 in the third round to secure a final score of 202 (-14).

Notable:
Freshman Rose Solberg moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard to close out the tournament tied for 41st place (225). She carded a 1-over-par round of 73 during the third round.

Reese McCauley shot a 5-over-par 77 in the third round with four birdies on the day. The junior tied for 33rd on the leaderboard with an event total of 223 (+7).

Sophomore Lauryn Finley wrapped up the tournament tied for 48th place after shooting a 77 (+5) in the third and final round. She totalled an event score of 228 after tallying five birdies throughout the weekend.

Susanna Manns penciled in a 5-over-par 77 in the third round, landing tied for 54th after three days of play. The freshman concluded her inaugural collegiate event with a tournament score of 229 (+13).

Individual competitor Regan Dusenbery placed tied for 63rd overall (240) as she met par seven times accompanied by four birdies during the third round.

Looking Ahead:
The Golden Gophers will be back on the course Saturday, October 3 at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., for a three-day event, The Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
