(Minneapolis, MN) — The F-B-I says one person is under arrest for vandalizing and stealing property from federal vehicles after the ICE shooting and protest in north Minneapolis. F-B-I Director Kash Patel announced the arrest Thursday night and said, “The suspect is a member of the Latin Kings gang with a known violent criminal history.” A 100-thousand-dollar reward had been offered for information leading to the arrest and return of stolen property. The F-B-I left two unmarked vehicles at the scene on Wednesday night, and protesters ripped a large box from one of the trunks and spray-painted and looted both of them.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Homeland Security officials are identifying the man shot in the leg by a federal agent Wednesday night in north Minneapolis. D-H-S says officers attempted a targeted traffic stop on Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, who they claim entered the U-S illegally in 2022 and has prior minor offenses. According to D-H-S, Sosa-Celis tried to flee, crashed into a parked car, and ran. Agents say he struggled with an officer before two men came out of a nearby apartment and hit the officer with a snow shovel and a broom handle. That’s when an agent shot Sosa-Celis. Video shared by state Senator Erin Maye Quade of Apple Valley shows family members calling 9-1-1, claiming the agent hit Sosa-Celis’ vehicle, followed him, and tried to enter their home before the shooting.

(Rochester, MN) — A Republican lawmaker is attempting to impeach Governor Tim Walz. Representative Mike Wiener of Long Prairie announced four charges, accusing the two-term D-F-L governor of failing to stop fraud in state programs, interfering with oversight, placing politics above proper administration, and neglecting his duty to uphold state laws. Wiener says he has been drafting the articles for two months and believes impeachment is a way to hold elected officials accountable. He says about 10 House members have expressed support. Walz has announced he’s not running for re-election.

(Prior Lake, MN) — Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth is the winner of the Republican gubernatorial straw poll in Scott County. Demuth earned 72 votes, Chris Madel had 56, Kendall Qualls got 54 votes, Mike Lindell had 28, and Scott Jensen finished fifth with 22 votes. Eleven G-O-P candidates for governor participated in a two-hour forum Thursday night in Prior Lake. The state precinct caucuses are coming up on February 3rd.

(St. Paul, MN) — Construction unions are supporting the $907-million infrastructure plan proposed by Governor Tim Walz. Kris Fredson with LIUNA Minnesota & North Dakota says the projects funded will create thousands of jobs. He says, “We need our lawmakers to go to the State Capitol and pass a large bipartisan, balanced bonding bill that invests in infrastructure in every corner of the state. And hopefully the governor’s proposal today is a starting point.” Fredson says they’re confident the Minnesota House and Senate capital investment committees will get a construction jobs bill passed this session.

(St. Paul, MN) — A Senate Subcommittee hearing on federal impacts on Minnesotans shows a growing price tag for healthcare in the state. Joe Schindler with the Minnesota Hospital Association says because of the Big Beautiful Bill and cuts to Medicaid, “We estimate that would be a direct cost to hospitals of $270 million, which we expect to be charity care that is seen in both the emergency rooms. He warns there will also be $356 million in lost Medicaid revenue. Schindler says that charity care, which is treatment when someone cannot afford healthcare insurance, will rise 40 percent this year compared to 2024.

(Washington, DC) — Congressman Brad Finstad says he’s secured $11.4 million in funding for rural water infrastructure projects across southern Minnesota. The money will be used for 11 community projects, including pipeline replacements, contamination remediation, new wells and upgraded treatment facilities. Finstad said this funding will help communities ensure reliable access to clean drinking water, protect public health, and reduce the risk of system failures.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Winnipeg Jets crushed the Minnesota Wild 6-2 at Grand Casino Arena last night for their third straight loss. The Jets scored on the second shot of the game and had three goals in the first and second periods. Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt was pulled after 40 minutes. Danilla Yurov and Marcus Johansson lit the lamp for Minnesota. The Wild start a three-game road trip Saturday at Buffalo.
