>>Health Insurance Premiums Jump in Minnesota

(St. Paul, MN) – Hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans are facing significantly more expensive health insurance next year. The average increase for individual and small group insurance plans is 17% for 2027, the state’s Department of Commerce announced Thursday, raising costs for the 203,000 and 184,000 Minnesotans covered by individual and small group plans, respectively. Health insurers have raised rates by double digit increases for two years in a row. Last year, individual rates went up 22%, while rates for small groups went up an average of 14%.

 

 

>>Gas Prices Drop Again

(St. Louis Park, MN) – If you need to fill-up the tank for the weekend, gas prices dropped again across Minnesota. A gallon of regular unleaded costs $4.24 this morning after another two cent drop. The price has dropped 13 cents since last week. The price of diesel is also dropping now averaging $6.21 a gallon, a drop of 12 cents a gallon since last week.

 

 

>>Minnesota Officials Calling on Drivers to Slow Down

(St. Paul, MN) – It’s been a deadly summer on Minnesota roads, and law enforcement has been busy writing tickets for speeding. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety reports that more than 300 agencies across Minnesota issued more than 51,000 speeding citations during the annual summer enforcement campaign. During the period of Memorial Day through Labor Day, also known as the 100 deadliest days on the road, Minnesota had 154 traffic deaths. That was an increase of 40 lives lost from the previous year.

 

 

>>MN Senator Applauds Helium Proposal

(Hermantown, MN) – Minnesota state Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) is applauding the announcement from Pulsar Helium that the company has accepted an equipment supply proposal for a commercial-scale facility under the name Rare Gas Hub. The $85.5 million dollar proposal includes a helium liquidation plant and carbon dioxide capture plant. Pulsar is continuing discussions regarding a potential plant location in Lake County. Hauschild said, “Northern Minnesota has generations of experience responsibly developing natural resources that are important to our state and our country. Helium can be another chapter in that story.”

 

 

>>October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Minnesota

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz has proclaimed October 2026 as Cyber Security Awareness Month in Minnesota, aligning with the national observance, to highlight the importance of cybersecurity education and awareness for all Minnesotans.  Minnesota takes a statewide, coordinated approach to protect the personal information of residents, businesses, and visitors while ensuring critical systems remain secure and operational. Minnesota’s theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, “Stay sharp online: Use strong, safe, smart, secure actions,” highlights how strong cyber habits make a difference in protecting your sensitive data, online accounts, and devices.

 

 

>>DNR Recommends Buying Deer Hunting License Early

(St. Paul, MN) – Are you deer hunting this season and haven’t purchased your license yet? If so, the Minnesota DNR recommends you hop to it. Buying that license early will help you avoid any last-minute delays and protect your hunting time. The DNR launched a new electronic license system in June. The new system is functioning well, but it is a bit different, and users may find their first transaction takes a little more time as they acclimate. In addition, some individuals who had multiple records in the old system will require customer assistance from the DNR License Center to transfer their history and establish their account in the new system. Deer firearm season begins November 7th.

 

 

>>Grandma’s Marathon Sets Registration Record

(Duluth, MN) – A new race record for Grandma’s Marathon and this is for registration. Race officials announced the 8,000 entries for the marathon sold out in a new record of 174 minutes. The half marathon was also a record 58 minutes to sell all 7,500 entries. All races are now full for next year’s 51st year of the marathon. Race weekend is scheduled for June 17 – 19, 2027.

 

 

>>Minnesota Wild Win Season Opener at Nashville

(Nashville, TN) – The Minnesota Wild started the season off on the right skate by winning 3-1 at Nashville in the season opener. The Wild got goals from Nick Foligno, Blake Coleman and Kirill Kaprizov and goalie Jesper Wallstedt stopped 19 of 20 shots in beating the Predators. It’s the fourth straight season opener win for the Wild. They host Boston Saturday night in the home opener.

 

 

>>Timberwolves and Lynx Unveil New Court in Red Wing

(Minneapolis) – The Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx will be making a road trip to Red Wing on Saturday. The teams will be holding an event to raise money for a gym update at the Red Wing YMCA along with scholarship funding and equipment donations. Players and mascots will be there to meet the fans. The event starts on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
