(White Bear Lake, MN) — The State Fire Marshal will release preliminary findings this morning (11 AM) into a White Bear Lake house fire that killed a mother and her three children. Jessi Hinrichs and her children Hudson, Cayden, and Avery died in the March 21st fire along with the family’s dog. State Fire Marshal Dan Krier and White Bear Lake Fire Chief Greg Peterson will discuss the investigation during an 11 a.m. news conference in St. Paul.

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) announced the implementation of the Minnesota Guide to Sexual Assault Investigations. It’s a statewide resource designed to support law enforcement officers as they investigate sexual assault cases and respond to survivors. These guidelines include specific investigative practices for law enforcement and prosecutors, including victim support, evidence collection, post-conviction steps, and much more. Recommendations in this guide are offered to support consistent and quality sexual assault investigations across Minnesota. The BCA says incidents of sexual assault have seen mostly a steady decline over the past five years, but 2,211 people were still victims in 2025.

(Hinckley, MN) — Three teenagers are in custody following a shooting that wounded a 33-year-old man in Hinckley. Mille Lacs Tribal Police say officers responded Sunday night and found the man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was flown to a Twin Cities hospital and was last listed as stable. Police arrested the three teens Monday while executing search warrants and say a gun was found buried in a wooded area. The shooting remains under investigation.

(St. Paul, MN) — Former Minnesota Senate Minority Leader David Hann has been named state co-chair of U.S. Term Limits, a nonprofit organization advocating for congressional term limits. Hann says he will work with Minnesotans and state lawmakers to build support for a constitutional amendment limiting how long members can serve in Congress. Hann represented the Eden Prairie area in the Minnesota Senate from 2003 through 2016 and later chaired the Minnesota Republican Party. He briefly ran for U.S. Senate this year before suspending his campaign in April.

Forest officials say crews are burning piles of vegetation and debris collected during previous fuel-reduction and timber projects. Officials say pile burning can also improve forest health by returning nutrients to the soil and supporting fire-dependent plants and ecosystems.

DNR volunteer mentor program coordinator Benji Kohn says adults should help kids practice beforehand and have a plan for using any game they harvest. The DNR says youth participation in small-game hunting has declined in recent years. Kohn says the weekend is also an opportunity for families to unplug, explore public lands, and spend time outdoors together.

(St. Paul, MN) — The University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center says West Nile virus caused the death of one of its educational birds. Aurora Frost, a northern hawk owl, died August 30th after staff noticed changes in her behavior two days earlier and admitted her for treatment. Testing later confirmed a West Nile infection. The center says Aurora had been vaccinated against the virus, making this its first known vaccine failure involving one of its ambassador raptors.
