The FAA says a replica Piper PA-18 crashed while departing the airport around 4:20 p.m. Two people were on board, but authorities have not released information about their condition. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

(Battle Lake, MN) — The BCA is investigating after a law enforcement officer shot and killed a man during a standoff Friday night in rural Battle Lake. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says the man allegedly struck someone with the butt of a shotgun before barricading himself inside a home. Authorities say he later fired at an armored SWAT vehicle and eventually came outside and pointed a gun at law enforcement. An officer then opened fire, killing the man. No officers were injured. Authorities have not released the man’s identity.

(New Richland, MN) — State and local officials will provide an update today on recovery efforts following severe flooding in New Richland. Roughly nine inches of rain fell September 18th into the 19th, damaging about 80 percent of homes in the community of roughly 1,200 people. Flooding also heavily damaged the city-owned New Richland Care Center, forcing 36 residents to evacuate. Officials are scheduled to provide the recovery update at 1 p.m.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles.

(Roseville, MN) — Charges could come today against a 41-year-old Isanti man arrested in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a woman in Roseville. Police say the woman was leaving a business last Wednesday afternoon when a masked, armed man forced her into a vehicle. She was held for several hours before being released in St. Paul and later treated at a hospital. The suspect was arrested on Friday and remains in custody.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota lawmakers have approved bonding packages in each of the past two years, including a roughly $1.2 billion package this year, but infrastructure needs remain across the state. DFL Senator Grant Hauschild of Hermantown says lawmakers should consider new ways of prioritizing state assets, higher education and local projects. Hauschild says he also wants the Legislature to focus on the needs of Greater Minnesota, including childcare and healthcare. Lawmakers return in January and will also begin work on the state’s next two-year budget.

(Lake City, MN) — Lake City in southeastern Minnesota has issued a boil water advisory after E. coli bacteria were found in a drinking water sample collected on September 24th. Residents should not drink tap water without boiling it first or using bottled water. Bring all water to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute and let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

(Big Lake, MN) — A Big Lake project is showing how farmland and solar energy can share the same space. Three farmers are growing crops between and around a one-megawatt solar array through a partnership involving U.S. Solar, The Food Group and Connexus Energy. The project began as a pilot in 2023 and became permanent this year, with farmers receiving 10-year leases. Researchers say many crops grown among solar panels can produce yields comparable to traditional farming.
