(Minneapolis) – A debate is now scheduled in the Minnesota governor’s race between DFL candidate and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth. The two candidates will square off Monday, October 19 at Madden’s on Gull Lake and is hosted by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber says topics for the debate will focus on Minnesota’s economic future and issues impacting local businesses.

(Charlottenlund, Denmark) – Governor Tim Walz continues his Nordic tour today in Denmark and Sweden. The governor is meeting with representatives of Denmark’s largest business organization and employers’ association. He will also speak on one of its events. Then the governor is headed to a Minnesota reception hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden. The governor is there looking for opportunities for Minnesota businesses and workers. His trip wraps up Sunday.
>>Three Charged with Illegal Voting in Minnesota
(Undated) – Three men are facing federal charges for allegedly voting in Minnesota despite not being U.S. citizens. Federal prosecutors say Joshua Frederick Kofi Edzie, Alan Barbu Kargbo, and Aparecido Donizetti Padovan knowingly cast ballots even though they were not eligible to vote. Investigators allege Padovan and Kargbo voted in the November 2024 general election, while Kofi Edzie voted in October 2024 and again in this year’s August primary. Each is charged with falsely claiming citizenship to vote and voting as a non-citizen. More than 3.2 million ballots were cast in Minnesota’s 2024 general election.

(Washington, D.C) – Minnesota Congresswoman Kelly Morrison is urging federal health officials to address a nationwide shortage of estrogen patches used to treat menopause symptoms. Morrison joined fellow members of Congress in a letter to the FDA and Department of Health and Human Services, calling for immediate action. Lawmakers say demand for estradiol patches has surged in recent years, leaving many women unable to fill prescriptions. Morrison, an OB-GYN, says interruptions in treatment can affect quality of life and may increase long-term health risks, including bone and cardiovascular problems.
>>Biodiesel Tax Credit Extension Proposed
(Washington, D.C.) – A bipartisan bill introduced by Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley and Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar would extend a federal tax credit for small biodiesel producers through 2029. The Small Agri-Biodiesel Producer Credit provides 20 cents per gallon on the first 15 million gallons of biodiesel produced annually by qualifying companies. The credit is set to expire at the end of this year. Clean Fuels says the extension would provide certainty for producers while supporting jobs, rural investment, and domestic energy production.
>>Three Killed in Minneapolis Crash
(Minneapolis, MN) – Three people are dead and four others injured after a crash involving a stolen vehicle and a semi-truck in southeast Minneapolis early Tuesday morning. Police say seven people were inside a stolen Hyundai Elantra when it collided with the trailer of a tractor-trailer around 4:12 a.m. Two men and a woman died at the scene. Four other occupants, ranging in age from 17 to 18, were rescued and taken to Hennepin Healthcare with potentially life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe speed was a factor. The semi driver was not hurt.
>>Duluth Man Gets Prison Time for Violent Carjacking
(Duluth, MN) – A Duluth man has been sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison for a violent carjacking that nearly killed a 78-year-old man. Prosecutors say Warren Holt Junior attacked the victim in his garage in June 2021 after being told the man’s Ford F-150 was not for sale. Court records say Holt struck the victim, strangled him, and repeatedly stabbed him with a woodworking tool before stealing the pickup. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a collapsed lung, fractured rib, and multiple puncture wounds, but survived. Holt was later arrested in Carlton County while driving the stolen truck and pleaded guilty last November.

(New York, NY) – The Minnesota Lynx finished the season with a disappointing loss in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs losing Game 2 to the New York Liberty 87-71. It’s the first time in league history that a number one seed was swept in the first round. Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve said after the loss, “We became a great regular season team this year, and we ran into the wrong team.” Minnesota had the best record in the regular season at 33-11.
>>Wild Faber Out with Skull Fracture
(St. Paul, MN) – Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin announced that defenseman Brock Faber suffered a skull fracture against the Dallas Stars and will be out of the line up for an undetermined amount of time. The injury happened in the second period of the final preseason game and while Faber returned to action after taking a puck up high, he sat out the entire third period and did not return to action. Over the weekend, Guerin said Faber underwent successful surgery and is currently resting at home. His return date at this point isn’t known. The Wild opens the regular season tomorrow night at Nashville.
